About

The Great Adventure Lab is an after-school science enrichment program offering our classes in 50+ schools in the D.C. area. We’ve taught thousands of kids how to write their first robotics programs or video game programs (or both!). We also teach science, engineering, electronics...and more! We do it all with SMALL class sizes with an adult to student ratio of 6:1. Our goal is to make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics irresistibly FUN for the next generation.

You can read all about our classes and birthdayparties  at  http://thegreatadventurelab.com.  The site includes plenty of photos and links to videos from our classes!

We are an LLC based in Silver Spring, MD. We are fully insured and our instructors have passed background checks including FBI and state fingerprinting.

Here are mini-descriptions of our Fall 2015 offerings at Maryvale ES.  Please follow links for complete details, including photos!  Room numbers TBD. Instructor will send welcome email several days before class.

These activities are not sponsored by, associated with, or endorsed by MCPS or Montgomery County Government.

Lego Robotics A and B are two independent classes. Same curriculum, different projects.  Take one or both in any order! Students may not repeat either class and must be in specified grade range.

GRADES 3–4

This is our core class in which beginners learn to build and program LEGO® robots using LEGO® Education's award-winning WeDo robotics and programming software. Students follow step-by-step on-screen instructions to build their own robots and a suggested program. More advanced students can develop more complicated programs involving motion or tilt sensors. In the final class, we take off the training wheels and challenge students to design, build, and program robots that can achieve a certain task.

Areas of Exploration: Robotics, Programming, Logic.

Class Format: Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week.

After school pricing: $130 tuition per student, min 11 / max 12 students,

1 instructor, 1 aide. Parent aide for full class gets free tuition.  Use Special Code: PA-Lego

GRADES 1-2

Here’s a fun introduction to the world of robotics and mechanical engineering, designed especially for grades 1 and 2.  We’ll learn what programs do and how to write our own. Each class meeting, we’ll build a different project and then use motors, sensors, and our own programs to bring our creations to life!  Projects include drawbridges, sliding fortress gates, motorcycles that pop wheelies… and more!
